Description

Salary: up to £65,000

As a Software Architect you will have a broad technical focus across multiple areas of the product where you will guide teams and projects to delivering high quality end-to-end solutions based on industry standards, best practice and your in-depth knowledge and experience of commercial software applications.
 
You will work hand-in-hand with System and Enterprise Architects to establish the technical vision for the product which you will pass down to developers, ensuring that they clearly understand the overall technology strategy – where we are headed and how to get there.
 
You will also take the lead on technical development initiatives that help to improve the software development cycle with particular emphasis on consistency, quality, reliability and efficiency of the product codebase as a whole.
 
Education & Experience:
 
Whilst it is accepted that the individual education and experience profile will vary, the following is provided as a guideline:
 
Education:
 
·         BSC or equivalent in a software engineering discipline
·         Professional qualifications appropriate to software engineering roles
 
Professional Experience:
 
·         Significant development experience with excellent software engineering skills and specialist knowledge in several technical areas
·         Excellent communication skills with an ability to convey complex ideas to technical and non-technical people, enabling positive collaboration with functions outside development
·         High level of experience of formal software development and testing methodologies
·         Good understanding of principles, theories, practices and techniques for leading activities involved in planning and delivering software development projects
·         Strong reasoning with a mature and balanced approach to problem solving, with a good understanding of the differences between perfect and workable
·         Experience of assessing and prioritising technical debt
·         Experience of rearchitecting software to improve performance and scalability
·         Experience of designing software using Azure services
·         Experience of data modelling in relational and document databases
·         Domain or Product expertise in multiple key areas associated with the role is strongly preferred. As a minimum requirement, demonstrable ability to rapidly develop this level expertise from previous roles is a must
 
Responsibilities:
 
·         Provide hands-on technical leadership across multiple teams, ensuring that software is designed, developed and unit tested according to good software engineering principles
·         Work with Scrum Masters and Lead Developers to coach individual team members as required to drive up delivery capabilities
·         Collaborate with the Agile and Portfolio teams to define new and extended product functionality, assessing technical risks and dependencies
·         Collaborate with the Portfolio teams to produce high level estimates of development effort for future development activities, and refine these estimates as additional detail becomes available
·         Influence colleagues at the Portfolio level on areas of potential product improvements
·         Influence System and Enterprise Architects in their technology decision-making
·         Actively share thoughts and views on technology with an open attitude to information sharing
·         Help drive continuous improvements to the product codebase including the recovery of technical debt and the introduction of best practices, where applicable
·         Ensure code reviews and unit testing are completed for your team, and that these consistently follow departmental guidelines. Where no formal guidelines exist, work with peers to formulate and enforce such guidelines
·         Continuously improves productivity using software development tools, design methodologies and better practice
·         Drive triage of assigned software defects, agreeing priority with the Product Owner and Release Management
·         Keep abreast of technology trends and how they could be applied in the company. Put forward suggestions for improvement to development processes or tools where applicable.
·         Work the teams to enhance the scalability and performance of the system whilst delivering customer requirements quickly, reliably and efficiently
·         Ensure the architectural integrity of the system is maintained in-line with the company’s architecture and UX standards
·         Lead on technical initiatives that improves the quality of the product codebase and its delivery to internal and external customers
·         Any other activities in support of the business which can reasonably be expected to fall within the capabilities of the employee
