Salary: £35,000 to £40,000
The Network Consultant will work alongside specialists within the Technical Services Team and will be trained in all aspects of the teams work with emphasis on the Technical Support function. They will also work closely with product development, deployment and project teams. The suitable candidate will be provided with on-the-job training for all supported hardware, operating systems, databases and applications.
Skills and Experience:
The post holder must have knowledge / experience of:
• Competency in communicating with business owners and technologists.
• Thorough technical competence and awareness of the technical markets
• Excellent communications and document management skills.
• Understanding of the application of network technologies.
• Experience in supporting network hardware and software in a complex multi-protocol environment.
• Experience in supporting appliances such as DNS/DHCP, proxies, security etc.
• Ability to configure networking equipment for use in a multiple protocol environment.
• Knowledge of theories and concepts of data communications.
• Ability to work with a minimum of supervision in the maintenance and support of complex network environments.
• Ability to communicate and present complex issues effectively to technical and non-technical people.
• Ability to solve complex network problems.
• Information security best practice, Working with formal change control processes.
• Specific knowledge to certification standards of Cisco, Fortinet, F5 network hardware and firmware.
It is desirable for the post-holder to have the following skills:
• Experience of working in various operating environments
• Understanding of IT service provision and IT development life cycle.
• Ability to operate across multiple projects concurrently and assume the responsibility for the appropriate technical and architectural implementation of projects.
• Ability to compel issue resolution across assorted groups within a corporate framework.
• Ability to manage small project teams in order to achieve project goals.
• Ability to work within budgets.
• Specific knowledge to certification standards of Cisco, Fortinet, F5 network hardware and firmware.
• Experience with networking aspects of Azure Cloud networking (integration with and design of).
• Experience of managing and maintaining network monitoring systems e.g., SolarWinds, PRTG
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Network Consultant purpose is to:
• Integrate business with information technology through good business understanding.
• Management and delivery of resolutions for problems and actively implement enhancements to the Network Infrastructure.
• Actively integrates into the business as a value-added function, whilst maintaining the highest levels of integrity.
• Communicate with business owners and technical staff to build integrated solutions.
• Demonstrate requirements engineering (preparation, gathering, capture, analysis and use of requirements).
• Ensuring business requirements, solution definitions and functional and non-functional specifications are complete, unambiguous and verifiable.
• Work with multiple business owners to create line of business-based solutions that integrate with the existing infrastructure and can be supported by the network operations group
• Conduct technical project reviews and identify areas for improvement.
• Support and actively participate in the Network Support function and on Call rota
• Ensure all changes are fully documented and actively review other requests to ensure accuracy and quality standards are maintained.
